The Ligue 1 champions have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2012/2013 campaign with the signing of 25-year old Argentine striker Emanuel Herrera
Herrera has become La Paillade’s fourth signing of the summer following his 3 million Euros move from Chilean club Union Espanola and many are viewing him as a successor to Olivier Giroud.
Montpellier Herault have wasted little time in strengthening their squad following the departure of their top scorer from last season Olivier Giroud. The France international was sold to Arsenal earlier this month for a fee believed to be around 12 million
Euros, leaving Montpellier with a tough task of finding an able replacement.
Union Espanola finished 5th in the national championship last season and also managed to reach the Last 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Emanuel Herrera starred for his side last season with 16 goals in 31 outings, thus prompting Montpellier to sign
the striker, who was relatively unknown to other Ligue 1 clubs.
Chilean football expert Joel Sked expressed his delight over the Argentinean’s move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and believes that Herrera will be a valuable asset for the French club.
Joel Sked stated that Herrera has the ability to survive in the French football and his goal scoring ability will cause tremendous problems to other teams.
“In terms of his goal-scoring ability he is very good and will cause teams problems. He can finish powerfully of both feet while chipping in with a number of composed finishes and he is also very good in the air.”
Emanuel Herrera has expressed his pleasure over his move to Montpellier and has vowed to perform to his best for the club.
The former CD Concepción player is excited at the prospect of playing in the Champions League and wants to help his new side win more trophies this season.
"I am very happy to arrive in France, and to be a part of Montpellier, who are the reigning Ligue 1 champions. We will play the Champions League and I hope to give everything to Montpellier,” Herrera told reporters.
La Paillade will undoubtedly miss Olivier Giroud’s presence in their ranks but the French club is hoping that their new signing will guide the club forward.
Montpellier will kick-start their 2012/2013 Ligue 1 campaign on August 10 when they host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toulouse-FC-c40751 at Stade de la Mosson.
