Emanuel Steward: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight might happen if they win their next fights – Boxing
The American boxing trainer, commentator and inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame, Emanuel Stewards believes the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather will set up a
mega showdown between them, provided they both win their upcoming fights.
The eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), Manny Pacquiao, is currently set to take on the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez, on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in
Las Vegas.
On the other hand, the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather, will take on Victor ‘the Vicious’ Ortiz on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the same venue.
Both of these fights are highly anticipated as people know Juan Manuel and Victor Ortiz are also very skilled fighters. Therefore Steward, in an exclusive interview on ‘On the Ropes Boxing Radio,’ stated if Pacquiao and Mayweather both win their upcoming
fights, they will look forward to one of the most eagerly awaited bouts in the sport.
Steward said, “I think the biggest problem that I’m seeing, and maybe I’m crazy, is they both have some tough fights coming up. I look at Pacquiao’s fight. It’s going to be a tough fight and I think Floyd’s fight is tough. But I believe that Floyd and Manny
will come somewhere together on this with whatever, the performance enhancing drugs thing. I think that they will come together some kind of way and that the fight will take place if they both can get by these next fights.”
In the end Steward picked up the undefeated American legend Mayweather over the Filipino Star Manny Pacquiao, as Steward thinks Mayweather has some advantage over Pacquiao.
“If they do fight I think Floyd in my mind still has to be given a slight edge maybe,” Steward added.
Let’s see if the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout becomes real as it is certainly going to break all the grossing records thus far.
