Emanuel Steward believes Timothy Bradley is rising in calibre – Boxing News
Renowned commentator and trainer Emanuel Steward believes Timothy Bradley performed well against the world’s most explosive fighter Manny Pacquiao. Although Steward believes Pacquiao won the June 9 showdown, he still insists Bradley was good at his game.
“I think Timothy Bradley is definitely going to be a better fighter,” said Steward.
“The fact that he's been fighting so infrequent, that was, what I would say, was an introduction to the elite level to the fighter who was considered by many to be the best in the world. And to go twelve good, competitive rounds with him, I think he'll grow
from that. And hopefully, as soon as he heals up he'll get back in action soon as possible. … I think he needs to improve on his punching power a little bit too. He needs to focus on this area; not changing but having a little more pop in his punch.”
Nevertheless, Steward is of the view that Bradley needs to improve by far, before he can seek fighters with other major fighters.
Bradley won the WBO welterweight title from Manny Pacquiao on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The split decision victory soon became controversial and the new WBO titlist received several hateful and negative remarks from all around the world. Not
a single individual, be it a fighter or a trainer, rated the fighter for Bradley.
After a week, the World Boxing Organisation conducted a fight review in order to determine if Bradley had won the showdown. Five international judges were called upon to review the fight. A week later, the results were revealed, showing Pacquiao winner of
the fight by all five judges.
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan called the victory a ‘robbery’ for Pacquiao. Oscar de la Hoya, former fighter and owner of Golden Boy Promotions, advised Bradley to return the belt to Pacquiao. Similarly, Bradley’s close friend Andre
Ward believes Bradley should have announced the fight in Pacquiao’s favour just when the judges regarded him as the winner.
The controversial decision has stirred up awful remarks and emotions for Bradley from all over the world. Now, the new WBO welterweight champion wants to go head to head with Pacquiao again to prove he won straight.
