Emanuel Steward denies having dialogues with Amir Khan or his camp – Boxing News
Trainer of Ukrainian WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO & The Ring Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko has denied reports of having dialogues with British fighter Amir Khan or his associates.
In an interview last week, Khan revealed that he was contacted by Emanuel Steward, assuring the Bolton proud that he would mould him into an unbeatable fighter. The news spread like wildfire across the internet, and probably reached Emanuel Steward too,
who has now reportedly shrugged off Khan’s claims.
“I've had so many trainers approach me in the past week,” Khan told Sky Sports News last week.
Khan claimed that the ‘main one’ who approached him was Emanuel Steward. When asked if he is thinking of parting ways with Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach, Khan added, “It's all about seeing who might suit my style, who might help me on my offense, who
might help me on my defense. I think I'm one of the best offensive fighters in the world, I just need to work on my defense.”
“I really think to be one of the leading fighters, you need to have both. There are going to be a lot of things I'm going to change, but you will see a new Amir Khan.”
It should be noted here that Freddie Roach is widely acclaimed trainer, with fighters like Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan in his arsenal. Roach previously helped Khan to rebuild his career, after the Briton’s devastating first round knockout defeat to Breidis
Prescott.
Khan’s frustration on Roach came in following his knockout loss to Danny Garcia. Khan, as Paulie Malignaggi puts it, was hooked like a fish in the third, and later in the fourth round twice. The fight was stopped by the referee after realising the Briton
could not take any more beating from Garcia.
The fight was as important for Khan as it was for Garcia, but the unbeaten American made it mark to be the victorious while Khan walked away with a long face. Ever since then, Khan has been justifying his fighting skills, saying he needs to make improvements
to his camp in order to be a better fighter.
