Emanuel Steward says Victor Ortiz needs to be prepared against Floyd Mayweather – Boxing news
The American boxing trainer, commentator and inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame, Emanuel Stewards reckons Victor ‘the Vicious’ Ortiz needs to be at his best if he wants to beat the five-division world champion
and the current World Boxing Council Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather.
The 24-year-old, Victor Ortiz, who is the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, will step in the ring against Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather in a highly-anticipated 12-round bout on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Steward believes Ortiz will have to produce something extraordinary to win.
Steward in an exclusive interview on ‘On the Ropes Boxing Radio’ stated that the 34-year-old undefeated American legend Floyd Mayweather, who holds a record of winning all of his 41 professional fights, with 25 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout,
is a great boxer with a lot of experience under his belt.
Steward remarked Ortiz will have come up with something extraordinary if he wants to break Mayweather’s incredible unbeaten record, which has not been broken in the past 15 years.
Steward said, “I think he’s got to be prepared to fight, if he can, the same type of a high charged energetic fight that he fought with Berto. Floyd’s a very intelligent fighter, and that’s the only way that he’s going to be able to beat Floyd. Floyd is
a great technician with a lot of experience.”
Ortiz, who is the winner of 29 of his 33 professional fights (2 Draws), with 22 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, will enter the ring as an underdog. Therefore, Steward admitted that Mayweather can be surprised.
Steward added, “I think it’s a good fight for boxing. Ortiz’s name is not a big name to the general public, and he just really came on the scene with one fight. I think it’s more than anything than Floyd has fought in a long time.”
