Embarrased by ..........?

Question

I am sick of a dirty house and I want a clean and inviting one when company wants to come over. How can I get my family to stop throwing trash around and start picking it up. I am very young and I won't be out of the house for another 3 years or less. I can't get them to clean a thing all they do is throw trash everywhere and they don't pick it up. I love them but they have really bad habits and I hate them for it. What can I do as the youngest in the family struggling with unclean in the family. My room is the cleanest room in the house and it is getting annoying. Please help me I am stressed and under pressure with no help I can't keep living like this!!!!!! I have tried cleaning before and it always got back right where it was I am begging you people help!!!!!! Please don't leave smart *** comments cause I am not in the mood to read them!!!!

OOOH I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, MY FAMILY DOES IT TOO. AND I HATE IT THAT IS A VERY HARD HABIT TO BREAK. NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY EXCEPT STOP PICKING UP AFTER THEM WHEN THEY GET WHERE THEY CAN'T WALK IN THER ROOMS OR WHERE EVER MAYBE THEY WILL START CLEANING IT UP. BUT IF YA FIGURE OUT ANOTHER WAY LET ME NO. GOOD LUCK

It's O.K. to have a cluttered house, but not trash thrown around. Find a way to make it fun for people to pick up after them selves. Invent something! As long as the kitchen and bath are clean it's O.K. to have clutter!

It's so hard when your family embarrasses you.  Of course you love them, but you don't have to like everything they do. Sometimes it is only a matter of waiting until you are out on your own to create your own traditions and your own habits.  Just keep telling yourself how you will keep your own home when you get one.   Maybe when you are going to have a friend over, take it upon yourself just to tidy the family room and the toilet and bathroom and your bedroom so you have a couple of places in the house that aren't embarrassing and just try to bypass the rest of the house.  Your friends if they care about you, will turn a blind eye to it, especially when they see how you keep your own room.  

When you ask your family to not mess up, try to do it without getting angry and criticizing them.  You might get a better result if you aren't making them angry.  Good luck. It's a tough one.

Haha...funny you mention this!  I sorta have the same problem.  Even though I can be the problem too.

I am SO embarressed when people come over my house and it is messy.  Even when my cousin comes over, she said it's fine if it's messy but it's still embarressing.

Like right now, EVERY room in this house is messy.  Even mine.  But my room is almost done being cleaned.  But everywhere is just a mess.  It's mostly just stuff being left around and no one knows what to do with it.

All I can say is try and clean the house yourself and tell them if you mess up anything, you clean it up.  You can threaten them or make the house even worse to the point where they can't take it either.

you may have to wait until you get your own place. that may not be the advice you want, but it may be the truth. I wish there was something else, but you may just be living with pigs.
