Embarrassed?

I'm 15, I wanna act, but i will not tell ANYBODY about it, because im too embarrassed to say so...not that im embarrassed about acting...i mean, im really shy, what wood you think when someone who you know is shy and is really outgoing or anything says "i want to act"...

so as of now, ive told one person, one of my best friends...

i'd feel stupid if i told my parents...i'd feel like a 5 year old and the whole firefighter/police officer/other not as common jobs...especially since ive never been in a play or anything...

and i feel like if i told em, they wou;dnt believe me or theyd be like "well lets see something" and id be embarrassed about that...i see acting on camera is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than acting just in front of people...

why is this, what should i do if i wanna get in this business, since i obviously cant drive myself around and audition or go get help and everything...?

  1. Honestly don't be embarrassed- (yup easier said than done) but I'm 16 and absolutely love drama/theatre/acting and I thought people would think I was on a stupid whim cos I'm not the big gob and I don't like being centre of attention- but your mates will probably admire you for being committed to something and if you have a passion for something it's a great head start to being good at it because you will approach it with enthusiasm. Friends are great- they will come support you in plays in stuff and enjoy it with you- go for it! (Amdram society's are a great start and although some people scoff you can really learn a lot and discipline yourself into good stage habits)

    Hope this helps!

  2. PLEASE don't be embarrassed. I want to act too! Don't be afraid to tell people.

  3. What's so embarassing? Explain it as a hobby first instead of a career if you think that would be best.

  4. look around in newspapers and the internet. dont be embrassed theirs no reason to be. acting is an amazing thing todo not to be embrassed about it. show them ur talent and if ur too shy to then tell them their ur friends they wont judge you jsut casue ur shy!

  5. Look to your schools/local community play/drama sites for help.  Being involved in their plays/variety shows/drama classes, etc.  Best avenues for beginners...you have to have something behind you so that you get some sort of foundation first.

Geeze, if you want it bad enough, don't be embarassed to ask for it...let the world know...what could be the worst outcome, that they laugh...big deal...be a comedian...you'll do anything for a laugh.  Let that inner person get out of that inner cage.  By not expressing yourself outwardly...you could be passing up your opportunity.

Always have a plan "B" though...dreams and aspirations can sometimes hold you still for way too long.

    Good luck!

  6. Drop hints around your parents, like when your on the computure and are about to leave minimaized " Acting School" from a website, or take out a book about acting from a library or a friend. When your parents are around and maybe ur on the phone say like " yeah i really like acting" or something close. Or join like school plays , maybe when watching tv with your parents go like " oh thats Zac Efron- he started acting...." like ur telling them that your interested, but ur not acually going up to them and saying " i want to act" i tried it with my parents, and had the SAME problem, but now its like " mom im auditing for a show" mom: " okay, tell me the details after" Good luck!
