1. The interview is one of the last things they will do to process your application. Of course, ALL of your information that you provided must be current and true. Each embassy is different, but dont expect them to be nice, and since they represent the United States.. expect them to be slow at everything they do. Once you've had your interview they may require a lengthy international background check that sends you into the black hole called 'administrative processing'. This process can take from 2 weeks to several yrs, at their choosing. Bring everything you can think of to your interview as proof, and pray pray pray!

 2. Different consular sections are set up differently in some respects. Most windows used for interviews have a small microphone to amplify the voices, but how well that works does vary. How much investigation is done on the various forms varies considerably depending on the situation and whether the officer believes the facts as they are presented, or not. If there is serious doubt, chances are that the visa will be refused, rather than spend an inordinate amout of time and resources checking out every detail. If you're refused, you'll know. Among other things, they usually give you a small form saying that. If you are going through adminstrative processing, that would mean that at least you haven't been refused permanently, because they wouldn't bother to do more things. if they wanted to say no to begin with, they'd just say no. If your application is put on hold, they'll stamp your passport showing that, or if it is refused they'll stamp it showing that.
