All right. So you've found the PERFECT embroidery pattern, but how do you transfer the design on the fabric? Do you print it out on paper and then somehow..do something? Or do you look from pattern to fabric and do it that way?

  1. You can also print off the pattern you like, and go over the design either on the back of the paper using the light box idea of the window or on the front if you want the design reversed, with iron on pencil then iron it on to your fabric. Or you can use dressmakers carbon and trace directly using any pointed object. Just be sure to go over all lines.

  2. My favorite method is to lay the design under the fabric and trace it with a water soluble ink pen (The special pen is in the embroidery/sewing section of crafts).  It also helps to hod the whole thing up against a bright window  - a cheap version of a light table!  Use tape to help hold everything in place on the window while you trace.

The advantage of this method - any place where your stitches don't completely hide the lines  - the lines will erase away when dabbed with a damp cloth.

dress maker's carbon will also work - it's just harder to use.

  3. ~ you can print the pattern on iron transferable paper. you print with a normal printer than place the paper print side down and iron over it to make the pattern on the material. You can get the paper at Office Depot, or staples.
