  1. If you have a USB port, then all you really need is a flash drive, these are also called a memory stick, USB, etc.

These come very inexpensively and you can get one with 1 gigabyte of storage for $9.99 now at almost any stationery supply store or computer store.  You just download your designs from the internet onto your main computer, plug in the memory stick to a USB port on your computer, download the designs to it that you want to use and plug the stick into the USB port on your sewing machine and access the designs.

There are alot of free designs available on websites and yahoo groups.  Some of my favourites are:

    http://www.diamondcottagedesigns.ca/

    http://www.aadmall.com/

    http://www.artisticthreadworks.com/

  2. Design Cards.....Ebay ;)))

  3. Do you mean the ones with designs already on them?  Those are design cards.

Or the blank cards you use to put on designs you download from the internet?  Those are memory cards.  To use the blank ones, you need a reader that hooks to a USB port on your computer.  They generally come with a blank rewriteable card.

The most popular readers are the Ultimate Box:

The Amazing Design Little Max Embroidery Conversion Box:

    Or PED Basic:

(PED basic is the one I have.  I got it at WalMart and it came with a 4MB rewritable blank card which I've used over and over again.)

If you already have a reader and need more blank cards, it's best to get the ones made for the particular card reader you have.

I've giving the link to a fantastic forum below for fellow embroiderers and seamstresses.  The folks there are fantastic and love to help folks that have questions!  I've been a member there since I got my embroider machine and learned so much from them!

  4. Its a design card, or pcmcia card.

I enjoy http://www.dekatzenembroidery.co.za.  They have brilliant tips for embroidery and a wonderful selection of embroidery projects.
