Emergency Foodstamps?

How do I go about getting emergency food stamps? I am pretty sure they take walkins. What all do I need to bring in for a walk in? I live in Southern Ohio. My husband and I are having a difficult time right now. We have a son and one on the way... The bills are getting backed up, and we're choosing between the bills and food. We were doing fine. But all the sudden my husbands hours got cut horribly low. So we're struggling. He is trying to find a new job. So what can we do until that point. Also his insurance doesn't cover pregnancy. So can I get insurance just for my pregnancy also? I don't know about any of this stuff. People in my family have told me about it. Plz help.

  1. Go the Food stamp office. Bureaucrats are much nicer in person than they're portrayed on TV. Ask about Medicaid and Health Dept. services. You'll probably need proof of residence (even a power bill with your address) and proof of income--your husband's last pay stub.

Call the closest church and explain your situation. The person who answers the phone should have information and be pleasant about giving it to you. If they aren't, call the next closest church. Even if they don't give out things themselves, they'll know about food banks, rent/utility help, and clothes closets. Call the utility companies and ask about making partial payments. They should agree; ask them about programs to help pay your bills--they'll know some. Ask the pharmacist if there's a way to get help with prenatal vitamins, etc. While at the Health Dept. or doctor's office, ask the other mothers there about any programs they know for help.

    Good luck.

  2. Yes, you will need to go to your local social service office. Bring in a copy of all pay stubs coming in, and year to date as well, they may want your last year tax return, and proof or your residence and social security cards for every member of your family, also include in info given to them that you are pregnant, they do consider the unborn as one, so you have a family of four. Good luck, its a tough time out there. Also, even if you get food stamps, you can look into local food banks and churches as well. The resources are there to help people in need, so don't ever feel bad, when you get back on your feet, just try and pay it forward if you can comfortably do so.
