Question:

Emergency- Hernia Advice?

My father has a hernia in his groin, right side which was diagnosed by a GP 6 weeks ago. She said that once his condition deteriorates to get him straight to an ER as she said it is very serious.

Recently as of 5 days ago, it had protruded and as of today/last night, it hadn't gone back in. He is in agony, and cannot stand, walk or even sit without holding it.

I know very little about hernias, and am not sure what to do! Has it "popped"? Or should I be very worried?

  1. Don't panic! First he needs to go to a medical doctor, to know for sure in what state of urgency it is. Doctors usually suggest surgery, but during the last few years not all, some suggest a 'watchful waiting'.
I only can talk out of my own experience: I had an inguinal hernia about fife years ago and of course the doctor said that this must be operated as soon as possible otherwise it could be strangulated and I could die. But I rejected surgery even I had pain and it popped out. Even though I investigated about an alternative way to heal my hernia. There was no information available a few years ago. I treated myself in various ways and after about one year I was completely healed. There were no symptoms coming back in all those years. So healing is possible, although it needs quite an engagement. I have made a Web page about my healing process and you can read all about it at: http://falconblanco.com/health/
after I was healed I created an hernia support group, you can join or have a look: http://groups.google.com/group/herniasupport?hl=en
There you can find more information and also you can have an exchange with others who are healing their hernia.
