I have been unemployed and trying to get a job. My rent was due by the 6th. I only have half - do you know where I can get real emergency assistance? The links in my searches only go to 'grants' which are not real helpful.

  1. Try the department of social services, emergency assistance if they have it in your state. There may also be local churches that can help, call them and ask or if you belong to one try asking if there is a discrestionary fund. Make sure you mention your situation is temporary. If you have reasonable credit try peer-to -peer lending networks like prosper or kiva. Also see if your family or friends could help. Also try going to HUD's website to see if there are any agencies near you that can help and finding community organizations. I googled your area and came up with the Lutheran social services of souther california. I have attended luthern churches before and know they almost always try to help their community and try episcopal and methodist churches. Best of luck.
