Emergency Surgery Needed/indigent person?

I have a friend who is in extreme pain constantly needing full shoulder replacement...this person is indigent...how can i get him help?

  1. Social services may be able to help. Note, though, that there is no such thing as "emergency shoulder replacement." The pain is unfortunate but doesn't constitute an emergency, and pushing in that direction is only going to antagonize those who'd like to help.


  2. Your friend needs to find out what he has to do to be eligible for medicaid/medicare programs.  There are some charities and some churches that will help pay for medical care for indigent people.  And there surely are some health clinics in your area specifically for lower income and indigent people.  These are all good resources to help you find ways to get your friend cared for, or help in getting his care paid for.

    Your local Dept. of Social Services should have a list of resources, and your local United Way office will as well.
