Question:

Emergency UK Student Visa Situation?

I'm from the US, and currently in the UK. MY passport and student Visa was stolen in Vienna. I currently have an emergency passport that I'm going to change into a full-validity passport through the US Consulate in London. They let me back into the UK at the airport as long as I would go to the HomeOffice and get the student visa restamped (I have a copy of the visa along with a police report). One other fact: I'm going back to the US at the end of January for a few days.

The Home Office said mailing in to get the visa could take over 3 months which isn't feasible. So, the only option is to set up an appointment and get it stamped for 500 pounds, 5 times the cost of the original visa. I cannot afford this: does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. I'm not sure if you should have any problems if the university/ college has details of your student visa this is mainly because they should have photocopied the details of your visa and should be corresponding with the Home Office for additional information. It seems like they have agreed to let you back into the UK.

See if you can pick up the visa or at least get a letter from the Home Office that states your situation. They might be willing to write the letter and give a contact person should you run into any trouble.
