Hi all, I've been on a pre holiday diet and off on a long flight to go treckking early .tomorrow morning. Unfortunately my diet had left me a bit "bunged up" ( three days) .

I really need something that will work today! before I start travelling. The thought of having to take a laxative when on a walking holiday is a nightmare!..lol

I need a really quick and very certain fix / laxative remedy that will work today whilst I have some time even if I'm running to the loo!

HELP! suggestions and experiences please

  1. Try a couple of large spoonfuls of honey. Use a laxative in suppository form. They act really quickly and won't irritate your stomach, because they bypass it. A couple of large spoonfuls of olive oil would do the trick also. The problem there is actually being able to swallow it without throwing up. You could also try drinking a large bottle of coca cola, it may work.

  2. Go out to your druggist and buy a bottle of Magnesium Citrate.  When you get home, pour 1/2 the bottle over ice with some 7-Up and drink it down.  It won't taste bad at all.  You'll get relief within two hours.  And for less than two dollars!  Have a great vacation!

  3. Try prune juice, but only if you can be within easy access to the bathroom.  I don't know how sensitive your system is, but I recently found relief with 8 ounces of prune juice.  That might be too much for some people.  In the past, I've actually drank a couple cups of prune juice in a couple of hours.  Your insides will start gurgling a little as the juice starts to work.  If you drink too much prune juice, whatever you eat for the next few hours will just go through you kind of quickly.  If watery bowel movements don't bother you, then I'd say go with the prune juice.

  4. Apart from a pack of dried prunes, try visiting Stretford, Manchester whilst wearing a Chelsea jersey

  5. lots of fibre, beans, eggs, fruit...any of them do it for me

  6. Buy a Fleets e***a at the store and give it to yourself, it will only take about 5-20 minutes and you're cleaned out.

  7. You need an e***a. It's not as bad as it sounds and it will work within a few minutes. I'm a nurse and I have to give them all the time to patients.

  8. In my own experience laxatives are poison!! I took it, waited 2 days and nothing happened, and then SUDDENLY I had the worst painful diarrhoe of my life. Luckily I was at home and not in a supermarket, or on a walking holiday(!).

I usually have a HUGE meal with coke or strong coffee, it "pushes" everything down and the caffeine stimulates the bowels. So drink loads of coffee and have a nice large McD with extra milkshake, fries, etc. ;-)

  9. eating a can of peas does it for me
