Emerging youngster Judd Trump aiming for title at World Snooker Championship 2011
Emerging snooker star Judd Trump is aiming high in the World Snooker Championship 2011 after defeating Neil Robertson 10-8 in the first round.
The Bristolian wants to be on top of the contenders list for the world championship taking place at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Trump showed a great deal of determination during the Robertson clash and took a comprehensive victory after a tough resistance from the defending champion. He will face Hong Kong’s Marco Fu or compatriot Martin Gould in the round of 16 on Thursday evening.
The win against Robertson has definitely increased his confidence for further clashes in the championship.
However, the 21-year-old Trump was surprised on the comments made by Robertson after the match that his young opponent was not mature enough to grab the first prize of £250,000.
Trump said, “I'm not sure why he said that. Why be in the tournament if you didn't think you could win it? Who wants to make the semis? I wouldn't enter the tournament if I didn't think I couldn't win it. I've come into this tournament with high expectations.
There's no reason why I can't go all the way.”
One of the reasons that played a key role in Trump’s success at the Crucible Theatre is his win in the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 a fortnight before. He has already being dubbed as the next Ronnie O’Sullivan for his outstanding success in Beijing.
World number 14 Trump is also keen to bring his parents a reward of their sacrifices made for him since he was born by clinching the world title in Sheffield.
“My parents have always been incredibly supportive and without that backing I wouldn't be here doing this. My mum is a cook, and my dad is a lorry driver. They actually haven't been on a holiday since I was born. Maybe if I win the world title I could send
them straight off on a nice cruise,” said the youngster after his win against Robertson.
The Bristolian cueman’s all-round performance in the China Open and the opening match of the World Snooker Championship 2011 has made him one of the top nominees for the world title.
