Unai Emery believes that his side can reach the later stages of UEFA Champions League, Russian Cup and can fight for a decent spot in the Russian Premier League
Spartak Moscow are playing at three fronts this season including Russian Premier League, Russian Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
The Moscow-based club have been drawn against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 in the group stages of the European tournament after securing a second-spot finish last season.
However, they struggled to kick start the tournament after suffering a 3-2 defeat against FC Barcelona in the opening group stage game at Camp Nou. They will now host Celtic at Luzhniki stadium before taking on Amkar Perm in the
upcoming league meeting.
As things stand, the Red-whites are at the 6th spot on the league table and five points behind the table-toppers, CSKA Moscow. The Spartachi will play the upcoming match on the back of a 2-1 win against FC Salyut Belgorod
at Salyut Stadium on Wednesday.
The Moscow-based club progressed to the Round-of-8 of the cup tournament after winning the corresponding fixture and will play against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Rostov-c39192 to reach the quarter-final of the prestigious cup of Russia.
Spartak head coach, Unai Emery, has insisted that they will try to take each game as it comes and assured the fans of trying to reach the later stages of each of the domestic and European tournament.
"We have qualified for the next round of the Cup of Russia, so am really happy with my team. This is a difficult tournament and not an easy task. It’s equally important for the opponent from the other divisions because they want
to prove against bigger clubs.”
“We were forced to make changes to the first team because of the numerous injuries and a busy schedule of games. I think that those who came out, coped with the task. Salyut were better than we expected. I think we dominated the
match in the second half.” The former Real Sociedad man was quoted as saying.
Emery insisted that it requires a lot of strength to go far in all competitions including the national championship, domestic cup and the European tournament.
