Unai Emery laments the valuable points dropped in the Russian Premier League tie against Volga Nizhny Novgorod, and has commented on the side's UEFA Champions League campaign
Spartak Moscow head coach, Unai Emery, has blamed his side following a 1-1 draw in the latest round of Russian Premier League action against Volga Nizhny Novgorod at Metallurg stadium on Saturday.
The Spartachi, who last dropped points against Anzhi Makhachkala at Dynamo stadium Makhachkala in mid-October, fell down to the 5th spot on the league table after recording their second draw of the ongoing season.
Emery insisted that they were unfortunate after they were being denied a chance to extend their impressive domestic league run.
“We played poorly. We wanted to control the ball from the start to impose our game against a well organized opponent, but failed. We lost a great chance to get closer to the leaders. But now we need to concentrate on home games
to finish the year as highly possible.” The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 coach was quoted as saying.
However, he told the fans not to worry as they will try to give them a sweet surprise by defeating Spanish giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078, in the upcoming UEFA Champions League’s group stage match at Luzhniki stadium on Tuesday.
As things stand, the Red-Whites are at the bottom-spot on their respective group table with just 3 points so far in the competition courtesy to their 1-0 win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394 last month.
“Playing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 is always difficult but we have every reason to be optimistic. We will fight for the victory and I think we have already shown them that we are able of doing it at Camp Nou. We can put our worthy opponents
in deep trouble.” He concluded.
Emery went on to admit that Spartak are not in a good position to qualify for the knock-out stages of the continental tournament after dropping too many points in the competition already.
However, he assured the fans that the Myaso will fight until the last group stage in a bid to qualify for the UEFA Europa League this season.
