  1. Not sure about the Ukraine. The wife's family come from Croatia so we'll be retiring there. The way we got round the residence problem was to form a company - may be the same in Ukraine - and buy a piece of land in the company name.

You need to contact the DWP for a pension forecast, advise that you intend emigrating and to where. They will advise if you can draw your UK pension in the Ukraine, what it is worth, and whether it is a fixed sum or index linked.

Examples are: If you emigrate to the USA your pension is permanently fixed at the rate when you emigrate and will never increase. In Croatia it rises at the same rate as in the UK.

    Hope that helps.

  2. You should approach the local Ukrainian embassy or consulate to find out if immigration is even possible, and how to go about it.

Your UK state pension can be paid abroad, but you should read the Direct.gov page on State Pension for Britons living abroad - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndB... - it looks like the pension would be paid in the form of a sterling cheque, every 4 or 13 weeks.
