Emil Holst trounces Yuhan Tan to get into Men’s Singles quarter-finals – Dutch Open Update
Men’s Singles campaigner Emil Holst of Denmark performed exceptionally well against Yuhan Tan and reserved the right to be in the quarter-finals of Yonex Dutch Open on October 11, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle was staged at local badminton arena of Almere, Netherlands and both shuttlers kept the crowd intact with a 48-minute show of skills.
Emil Holst finished this showdown with a favourable result of 21-11, 16-21 and 21-18 and setup next clash with Andre Kurniawan Tedjono of Indonesia.
The Danish player made his intentions clear straight away in the beginning of first set and sealed the victory by prevailing in the final set.
On the other hand, Yuhan Tan made every effort and bagged second match point but luck was not on his side as he had to face a woeful exit.
In the opening game, Emil Holst set the ball rolling with 4-1 margin and then magnified the impact by prevailing in five consecutive rallies.
He confounded the opposing shuttler with a fine blend of power packed strokes and masterly crafted drop net shots.
Later part of the game saw Emil in prime touch as he raised his lead with 18-7 and then swept the table with a significant total of 21-11.
The second set brought life back into the match as the Belgian shuttler counter-balanced the situation with a gutsy performance.
This time Yuhan Tan showed strong character after first set loss and established his grip in no time. He mounted pressure with 4-1 and then doubled the impact by registering 10-4 score on the board.
Though, he lost focus for a short period of time and it was felt that Emil Holst will transform his 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory but then Yuhan Tan struck hard and bagged this crucial match point with 21-16 margin.
With such an emphatic end of second set, the spectators were expecting third set to be a nerve-racking contest but their thirst was not filled as the Danish shuttler made it a one-sided affair.
Emil Holst showed maturity in his craft and sent Yuhan Tan packing with a striking knock of 21-18.
