Emily Seebohm excels in Women’s 50m freestyle - 2011 Southwest Classic Tucson
Australian swimmer, Emily Seebohm, excelled her performance in the Women’s 50m freestyle category on the final day of the 2011 South West Classic Tucson.
The Southwest Classic Tucson is a four-day international swimming meet, where professional swimmers were invited to compete with each other in their specialised events.
The first event of the session was the 50m freestyle, where the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medallist, Seebohm, demonstrated her gruelling efforts to obtain the title of the event. She won the gold medal in an astonishing time of 25.82 seconds, staying 0.12
seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Lara M Jackson. Jackson of the Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics-AZ followed Seebohm on the podium for the silver finish, as she clocked in a time of 25.94 seconds.
The third spot on the podium was secured by Brittany Elmslie of Australia, who touched the wall in third place, with a timing of 26.34 seconds. She edged out her strongest competitor, Margo M Geer of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics-AZ, who stayed only 0.01
seconds away from her, finishing fourth in a time of 26.35 seconds.
Seebohm, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer into the final with a timing of 26.75 seconds, showed an incredible improvement in her swim to secure the top spot on the podium and stun the arena with her scintillating effort of 25.82 seconds. She out-touched
the fastest qualifying swimmer, Jackson, who failed to sustain her top qualification spot.
In addition, Kait R Flederbach touched the wall for the fifth fastest position, by reporting in a time of 26.41 seconds. She was 0.10 seconds faster than her following swimmer, Hayley Palmer of New Zealand, who transpired as the sixth fastest swimmer by
posting a time of 26.51 seconds.
Laura Quilter of New Zealand and Leone Vorster of Tucson Ford completed their swims in the seventh and eighth fastest spots, producing a time of 26.95 and 26.96 seconds, respectively.
Seebohm earned the crowd’s respect by securing the gold medal in a comfortable manner, while the podium finishers received awards and accolades for their undisputed swims.
