Emilia Pikkarainen and Hanna-Maria Seppala excel in Espoo: Day four - Finland Long Course Nationals
Emilia Pikkarainen and Hanna-Maria Seppala took home the gold medal in their respective events on day four of the 2011 Finland Long Course Nationals, held in Espoo, Finland, on Sunday, July 3.
Emilia Pikkarainen won the Women’s 100m butterfly title, while Hanna-Maria Seppala secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet.
Pikkarainen captured the Women’s 100m butterfly title with a winning time of 1 minute and 00.02 seconds. Petra Soininen wound up second in 1 minute and 01.31, whereas, Melina Heikkinen earned third place honours in 1 minute and 02.88 seconds.
Hanna-Maria Seppala snagged the Women’s 200m freestyle title with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 01.54 seconds, while Noora Laukkanen finished second in 2 minutes and 05.19 seconds. Jenni Ruohoniemi rounded out the top three in 2 minutes and 05.46 seconds.
f***y Teijonsalo won the Women’s 400m Individual Medley crown with a sterling time of 5 minutes and 04.17 seconds, while Hilla Kortetjarvi was placed second in 5 minutes and 04.19 seconds. Third place on the podium went to Vilma Ruotsalainen in a time of
5 minutes and 05.64 seconds.
Jenna Laukkanen took home the Women’s 50m breast-stroke title with a time of 32.61 seconds. Veera Kivirinta was placed second in 32.97 seconds and Marlene Niemi finished third in a time of 33.12 seconds.

Henri Vartiainen clinched the Men’s 100m back-stroke race with a time of 58.43 seconds, whereas, Janne Markkanen wound up second in 58.81 seconds. The third place went to Valtteri Halonen in 58.85 seconds.
Aleksi Eskelinen grabbed the Men's 1500m freestyle title with a winning time of 16:14.63, while Anton Dobrzhanskiy nabbed silver in 16 minutes and 25.58 seconds. Eetu Piiroinen captured bronze in 16 minutes and 35.51 seconds.
The Men's 200m breast-stroke title was won by Eetu Karvonen in a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 17.07 seconds, while Ossi Oksa earned silver in 2 minutes and 21.42 seconds.  Sami Myren grabbed bronze in 2 minutes and 21.90 seconds.
Ari-Pekka Liukkonen picked up the top seed in the Men’s 50m freestyle with a time of 22.67 seconds. Jani Rusi finished second in 22.89 seconds, while Tatu Waltari earned third place honours in 23.17 seconds.
