Emilio Bonifacio is sent to seventh spot as he fails to live up to his role - MLB Update
Vivisection of the line-up has started, following a below par performance by the Miami Marlins. Manager Ozzie Guillen states that there is no panic riddling the club at the moment. Just to give some players a time out from their present duties, such decisions
are being taken, he explained.
Outfielder, Emilio Bonifacio has been poor ever since start of the season. He is not providing the kind of hits, needed during initial stages of the game.
Due patience was observed by the management in letting him take his time and start ascending his best gradually.
Repetition of the same mistakes time-and-again compelled the manager to send him down. Manager however has denied any possibility that he has been sent there permanently. Instead, he says, once he starts finding the connections right, he will be moved up
the order again.
Bonifacio is indifference to his place in the line-up. For him, getting to the bases and hitting properly are more important than his spot.
As opposed to losing confidence, he says, he is working out his swings and trying to make sure, he does not succumb to the lure of throws outside the strike zone.
“It’s no big deal,” Bonifacio said. “I have no problem with that. … I think, right now, I’ve been swinging at pitches outside of the zone. This doesn’t change anything. I just have to get on base, get base hits and swing at good pitches.”
Guillen calls Bonifacio as an important link to their offence and believes that the Marlins need his best at the earliest.
“Boni, when he gets hot, he’s very hot. When he’s cold, wow. I don’t know why. This guy’s game is running, speeding. He’s struggled on this road trip. Hopefully, we move him down for a couple days and then back up,” Guillen said.
Earlier, the Marlins removed Heath Bell from the closing job after his continuous failures on the mound.
Important shuffle-ups are underway at the moment. One will hope that these will help the Marlins in reversing their slump, which is just growing worse after every passing game. Upcoming matches are going to be interesting from this perspective.
