Emilio Bonifacio on 15-day disabled list as Miami Marlins call Nick Green - MLB Update
The second baseman Emilio Bonifacio has been put on the 15-day disabled after he injured his thumb in the last game while diving to make the play. The X-rays of the thumb are negative, which also means that Bonifacio will be taking a long time now to come
back.
The fact he has already gone through thumb surgery suggests that reappearance of the injury from the same place will make it difficult for him to recover quickly.
Meanwhile, the Marlins have called Nick Green in his place in order to keep the offence afloat even while injuries occur to the players. Green‘s record in the Triple-A New Orleans is impressive. He has been performing there consistently with an amazing batting
average.
Miami’s manager Ozzie Guillen will be expecting that he can replicate those performances in the Major League.
By the time Bonifacio had sprained his thumb during the game, in the first look, Guillen was of the view that the second baseman will not be able to return in the season again.
Right now, the Marlins rank among the lowest teams in the National League East Division. In light of this, the injury to a hitter who potentially has the ability to lead the offence in high scoring games is a setback for the club.
The Marlins are already looking for some sort of solace after putting up dismal shows right throughout the season. The absence of a hitter may accelerate their decline now.
This year the Marlins have sold players before the trade deadline. Realising that their probability to make it to the post-season is low, the management has considered it wise to send some of their hitters to other organisations. Therefore, for a depleted
offence, any kind of injury to the remaining players on the roster is a concern for the management.
Meanwhile, Green has an ideal opportunity to get himself acknowledged at the Major League level. By continuing his form that he maintained in the Minor League, he can become a permanent member in Miami’s line-up.
As Green comes to play in the upcoming games, it will be fascinating to see how he manages to demonstrate his talent on the plate and make a positive impact for the team.
