Emily Allen grabs Women’s 100 yard freestyle gold – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Emily Allen of North Mecklenburg grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100 yard freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
Allen, who qualified into the final as sixth fastest swimmer, went full rampant in the playoff and proved her eligibility for the crown.
With her notable efforts, the 15-year-old Allen stayed only a stroke ahead of her toughest challenger and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with a timing of 48.73 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Lindsey Engel of Orange Co. Waves, who stayed 0.23 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 48.96 seconds.
Engel was chased by Linnea Mack of Osprey Aquatics, who was 0.30 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in third place by producing an effort of 49.26 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Catherine Ladd of Santa Clara Swim Club, who was only 0.29 seconds slower and tapped the wall for fourth position by submitting a time of 49.55 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Lauren Rhodes of SwimMAC Carolina, who was 0.19 seconds slower and clocked a time of 49.74 seconds.
The 16-year-old Rhodes was traced by Rochelle Dong of Rancho San Diegu, who was 0.50 seconds behind and hit the finishing end for sixth place by reporting an effort of 50.24 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Victoria Toris of Scottsdale Aquatics, who was 0.21 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 50.45 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to upset any of her competitors. Allen stayed 3.15 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the finishing end with an effort
of 53.58 seconds.
In addition, Allen received a huge round of applause from the audience for her commendable form in the race and raked medal for her efforts after the session.
