Emily Launer dominates Women’s 400m freestyle heats – 2011 YMCA Long Course Nationals
Emily Launer of Kishwaukee-IL dominated the qualifying rounds of the Women’s 400m freestyle category, on day two of the 2011 Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Long Course Nationals at the Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Centre, in Atlanta,
Georgia.
Launer acquired the top qualification spot into the final, by finishing her swim in a fastest time of 4 minutes and 25.67 seconds. Her time was 5.98 seconds behind the national record of 4 minutes and 19.65 seconds, set by Shelby Fortin of Wilton-CT in 2010.
She was followed by Katy Luchansky of Wilton-CT, who stayed nearly one second behind her former swimmer and qualified as the second fastest swimmer in 4 minutes and 26.46 seconds. James Hannah of Sarasota-FL was the third best qualifying swimmer of the eight-lap
swim, as she stayed 0.94 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and concluded her swim in 4 minutes and 27.40 seconds.
Moments later, Shaylynn Spelman of Me Lyons-OH occupied the fourth best spot of the preliminary rounds, as she posted a time of 4 minutes and 27.91 seconds. She was followed by Luchansky’s team-member, Madeline Smart, who stayed 0.48 seconds behind Spelman
and reported in a time of 4 minutes and 28.39 seconds. Spelman’s team-member, Kaitlyn Ferrara was the sixth best swimmer, as she secured her qualification in a time of 4 minutes and 28.47 seconds.
She was followed by India Boland of North Shore-MA and Morgan Carr of Huntington-WV, who emerged as the seventh and eighth fastest finishers of the swim in a qualification time of 4:29.83 and 4:30.09 minutes, respectively.
l*****g-OH’s Sydney King was the ninth swimmer to enter the final, as she completed her eight-lap swim in a time of 4 minutes and 30.46 seconds. She was followed by Anna Wujciak of Gr. Flint-MI, who stayed only 0.02 seconds behind King and touched the finishing
wall to post a time of 4 minutes and 30.48 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the blistering swims of all swimmers, while these participants will face each other in the final to secure title finishes.
