Emily McClellan grabs Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Emily McClellan of J-Hawk Aquatic Club grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 20-year-old McClellan demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the double lap breaststroke discipline and showed her urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her continued efforts, she faced no difficulty in seizing gold medal of the discipline as she outperformed her rivals with a timing of 1 minute and 07.43 seconds.
Her effort remained almost 0.70 seconds faster from Laura Sogar of Bluefish Swim Club, who followed McClellan on the victory stand for second position by posting a time of 1 minute and 08.18 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Ellyn Baumgardner of CUBU Swim Club-P, who was just 0.07 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.25 seconds for bronze medal.
Sogar was traced by Aisling Scott of Australia, who stayed 0.82 seconds away from upsetting the third position holder and finished her race in fourth place by producing a time of 1 minute and 09.07 seconds.
Scott was followed by Haley Spencer of Minnesota Aquatics, who remained 0.55 seconds apart completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 09.62 seconds for fifth position.
Spencer was trailed by Catherine Meili of NYC-Lions/Columbia, who suffered a deficit of only 0.06 seconds from her former finisher and submitted a time of 1 minute and 09.68 seconds.
Seventh place of the breaststroke swim was secured by Andrea Kropp of Rattler Swim Club, who was 0.42 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 10.10 seconds.
Kropp was followed by Emma Schoettmer of Center Grove Aquatics, who was 0.89 seconds slower and made her way to the finishing end as eighth best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 10.99 seconds.
In addition, McClellan was very happy with her accomplishment in the breaststroke discipline and said that she would work hard to achieve the same at superior levels of swimming.
