Emily Pedersen shares the fourth position at the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Emily Pedersen of Denmark made an eleventh-hour charge at the Girls Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to record a top-five finish, on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
The Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, which is regarded as one of the premier amateur golf tournaments around the world, was being staged at the Biltmore Golf Course.
The event featured a total of 33 female and 61 male golfers from different parts of the world.
Pedersen, who carded 75s in each of the first two rounds, made a slight comeback by carding a two-over par 73 on day three. Entering the final round, she was holding the 10th position on the leaderboard.
The final round witnessed her making a shaky start, as she bogeyed the first hole, followed by a birdie on the very next hole that she played.
She then added another shot on the fourth hole. However, she failed to save the par on the fifth hole, to return to an even-par score for the round.
Thereafter, she gained another shot on the eighth hole to reach the turn in one under. The back nine of the course saw her making a better start, as she drained birdie putts on the 11th and the 12th hole.
The 16th hole saw her conceding another bogey, prior to finishing the tournament with a birdie putt on the 18th hole.
At the end of the day, she found herself sharing the fourth position on the leaderboard, three strokes behind the winner Maria Torres.
According to the golf commentators, Pederson could have easily mounted a title charge, if she had performed better in the first two rounds.
Pederson struggled with her game in the first half of the tournament, and was not able to create enough birdie chances. As a result, it became really difficult for her to challenge the leaders till the end of the tournament.
The overnight leader Megan Khang, in the meantime, faltered for a six-over par 77, to slip down to the third position on the leaderboard. She conceded seven bogeys against a lone bogey to finish two strokes behind Torres.
