Emily Seebohm pockets Women’s 100m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Emily Seebohm of Nudgee Brothers pocketed gold medal of Women’s 100m backstroke on day three of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Saturday, March 17.
The 19-year-old Seebohm acquired gold medal of the Women’s 100m discipline by touching the wall first with an effort of 59.28 seconds. Her title claiming effort remained 0.13 seconds ahead of Belinda Hocking, who transpired on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 59.41 seconds.
The third spot of the event was gained by Sophie Edington of Melbourne, who settled on the finishing end for bronze medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.65 seconds.
In the meantime, Hayden Stoeckel accomplished gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke. The 27-year-old Stoeckel remained marginally ahead of his challengers and completed his swim in a time of 53.98 seconds for gold medal.
He stayed 0.07 seconds ahead of Daniel Arnamnart of SOPAC, who seized silver medal of the discipline by ending his race in a time of 54.05 seconds. He was followed by Benjamin Treffers of Burley Griffin, who remained 0.11 seconds slower and clocked a time of 54.16 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Nick D’Arcy dominated the Men’s 200m butterfly semi-final as he appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.56 seconds. He was chased by Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who was 0.80 seconds slower and reported a time of 1 minute and 57.36 seconds for second position.
The 23-year-old Wright remained almost two strokes ahead of Grant Irvine of St Peters Western Swim Club. The 20-year-old Irvine suffered a deficit of 0.60 seconds from Wright and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 57.96 seconds for third place.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events whereas the position holders received medals and accolades for their scintillating forms at the prize distribution ceremony of the championships. In addition, the championship will conclude on March 22 after the completion of all listed events.
