Emily Selig secures Women’s 200m IM crown: Day one – 2011 Australian University Games
Day one of the 2011 Australian University Games saw the impressive performance of Emily Selig in Gold Coast, Australia, on Tuesday, September 27. The session of the meet conduced Women’s 200m Individual Medley final event, where Emily Selig of University
of Melbourne powered the wall with a fastest mark of 2 minutes and 22.09 seconds to win gold medal on the podium.
In the corresponding event, Samantha Bennett of Monash University secured silver medal on the podium by submitting an exciting mark of 2 minutes and 23.47 seconds. On the other hand, Ashleigh McCleery of Griffith University claimed bronze medal by posting
a time of 2 minutes and 25.47 seconds.
Meanwhile, Meagan Ramsay of University of Sydney earned fourth place honours with a mark of 2 minutes and 26.42 seconds, while Rebecca Wheatley of University of Western Sydney settled for fifth spot with a riveting time of 2 minutes and 33.30 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Alyce Chenery of University of Western Sydney earned sixth place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 38.65 seconds. Sim Su Lim of Flinders University captured seventh spot with a mark of 2 minutes and 40.96 seconds, whereas, Julia
Oakley of University of Melbourne wound up eighth after she ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 44.28 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Marieke Guehrer of University of Melbourne captured the Women’s 100m butterfly crown on the podium by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.35 seconds. Emma Gray of University of Sydney secured silver medal by submitting a captivating time
of 1 minute and 03.68 seconds. In the corresponding event, Ashleigh McCleery of Griffith University took home the bronze medal as she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim to post an outstanding time of 1 minute and 04.53 seconds.
The arena gave a huge ovation to all athletes of the respective meet owing to their matchless swims, while the victorious swimmers were honoured with medals and accolades after the end of the day’s session.
