Emily Westwood casts out Monika Szoke in qualifying round of 2013 Austrian International Challenge
England’s young but talented female shuttler Emily Westwood continued her successful run in the qualifying round of Austrian International Challenge and thrashed Monika Szoke on February 20, 2013.
This Women’s Singles encounter remained in full swing for 36 minutes and both contenders challenged each other while piling up final figures of 21-16, 19-21 and 21-7.
Though, the British campaigner lost grip over match in the second set but still she managed to seal a splendid win.
On the other hand, Monika could not come out of her rival’s influence in the opening and ending segments of the showdown and surrendered tamely.
In first set of the match, Emily did not give her challenger enough time to get settled and confounded her with a brisk attack.
She bagged many valuable points in a row and established a decent lead without wasting any time. This early advantage helped her to dominate the opposing shuttler in next couple of rallies.
Emily finished first half of the set with a respectable a score position and capitalised this psychological edge in latter part of the game.
Though, Hungarian player made every effort to narrow the gap on points table but she gave up this futile chase after reading a decisive figure of 21-16.
However, Monika displayed a transformed character in next game and brought the contest to right balance.
This time she did not repeat previous mistakes and matched her rival’s skills in all areas of the game. Initially, she faced bit trouble in reading Emily’s strategy but the she tipped the scale in her favour with a splendid court craft.
Monika looked completely on song in last minutes as she bagged most of the ending points and won this crucial set with 21-19 margin.
Unexpectedly, the decider proved a one-sided affair as the British shuttler did not give her challenger even a single counterattack opportunity and sealed her victory with 21-7 score.
With this splendid win, Emily marched into third stage of the qualifying round where she will lock horns with Katerina Tomalova of Czech Republic. She is in high spirit to secure a main round berth.
