Emirates Cup Match Report – Arsenal vs New York Red Bulls – Part 1
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 played host to the New York Red Bulls at the Emirates, in what was being hailed as the biggest pre-season game the Gunners were taking part in.
The reason the match was being hyped up so much, was down to the fact that it marked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918’s return to the Emirates, following his move to the Red Bulls. As a result, the fans of the club and the player, just didn’t know who to root for once the game got underway.
The match kicked off with Henry of all people getting the first few shots on goal. In the 11th minute, the forward went on to take a pop at goal from just outside the area, only to see his effort sail inches wide of the post.
Then in the 24th minute, Henry stepped up to take a set-piece some twenty five yards from the Arsenal goal. The forward curled the ball brilliantly and very nearly found the back of the net, only for a spectacular save made by Szczesny to deny him.
In the 28th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 broke into the Red Bull’s area and was taken down from behind. With everyone expecting a penalty to be awarded, the referee decided to wave play on. It was rather shocking call, but both teams eventually had to carry on.
In the 42nd minute of the game, the first goal of the match was scored. Rosicky whipped in a free kick from the left side of the pitch, only to see Van Persie float in to nod the ball into the back of the net. The goal was made possible, only due to the poor marking that was done by the Red Bulls.
Following that goal, the referee soon pulled out his whistles and signalled the end of the first half, with Arsenal on top of things and looking to land the three points at the end of the game.
Despite Arsenal looking more comfortable going into the half, considering their ability to fall apart at almost any time, the Red Bulls still had a very strong chance of getting back in the game.
