Emirates Golf Club in Dubai region’s Golf Destination of the Year – IAGTO
The International Association of Golf Tour Operators has announced that the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai is its most recent winner at the IAGTO Awards this year.
The news, welcomed by the Club, also makes the region Golf Destination of the Year - Africa, Indian Ocean & Gulf States.
"It is heartening to know that Dubai continues to be seen as one of the world's top destinations for visiting golfers,” said Christopher May, Chief Executive of Golf Club, which manages both the Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
“We are proud of the role Emirates Golf Club has played in positioning the region as a must-visit golf experience,” he added.
Dubai has seen a rise in luxurious golfing since Emirates Golf Club Majlis Course opened in early 1988. Presently it stands at no. 97 in Golf World Magazine’s Top 100 Courses ranking, the first from the region to make the list.
The features that demand most attention of ‘The Desert Miracle’ are the Bedouin-styled Majlis clubhouse tents and the multi-million pound ‘night golf’ advantage.
‘Grassed’ dunes make for natural golf mounds and offer a serious test of golfing ability to the amateur and seasoned players alike.
In the previous years, the Majlis Course had also been chosen ‘Best course in the Middle East’ by the Asian Golf Monthly.
The Club has grown in stature since and is recognized as “the region’s golf pedigree for the last 25 years” to quote the Chief Executive.
Since before being named the Middle East’s Golf Destination of the Year, it has been a regular feature of the European Tour as well as the Ladies European Tour circuit for quite some time now, with the men’s Omega Series are all set to tee off next year.
Hamad Bin Mejren at the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing had this to say of the IAGTO accolade:
