Emirates Team New Zealand wins Cascais AC 500 Speed Trial: 34th America’s Cup Cascais World Series
Leader at the points table in Cascais, Emirates Team New Zealand gained another success in the Cascais AC 500 Speed Trial, as they finished the distance at 42.35 km/h to become the fastest catamaran
in the nine-boat fleet from around the world. The second day of 34th America’s Cup Cascais World Series has been tremendous for Emirates NZ, as they also retained their lead in Cascais Preliminaries too.
Before the AC 500 Speed Trial, the NZ team led the Cascais Preliminaries by 35 points after four fleet races on Sunday, August 7 in Portugal. The Emirates NZ crew, under the supervision of skipper
Dean Barker, gained tremendous momentum in the beginning and quickly got a 300m lead to finish on top of the standings
All the top teams had three attempts to record their fastest speed covering 500m distance. The Kiwi team had a disappointing first two attempts but finished the distance with highest speed of 42.35
km/h in their third attempt. Team Korea finished closed after them with 39.28 km/h to clinch the second place in Cascais AC 500 Speed Trial.
