Emma Broad, an emerging prospect of English Hockey passes away: Hockey News
Emma Broad, a talented young hockey player of England’s under-16 team, was found dead in her bed-room in Weybridge, Surrey last Sunday. Her family came to know about the bitter reality of her death when she did not get up on Sunday morning, on May
22. She had recently been selected in England’s under-16 team for the upcoming tournament which is going to be played in Spain.
During this year’s Easter Holidays, Emma Broad scored a goal while playing against Germany in a tournament which was held in Valencia. Despite of the fact she had scored a goal for her team, Germany remained successful in winning that game by 3-2.
However, her goal will now be remembered as a part of her memories.
Besides her family, all other related people, her college-mates, her friends and her team-mates, seemed very grieved at her fatal death. The principal of the esteemed St George’s College, where Emma was a student, Mr. Joe Peake informed her class-fellows
about her death.
“Emma Broad, one of our Fifth Year pupils, died peacefully and unexpectedly at home in her sleep on Saturday night. The college is devastated by this news and we send our condolences to Emma’s family who have been a part of our community for so many
years,” her teacher shared his views with others.
(Late) Emma Broad’s school-mates paid attributes to Emma and placed flowers at the back of the school chapel and near the hockey ground, where Emma acquired training and skills of hockey when she was a young girl.
The England Hockey Board (EHB) also acknowledged Emma’s achievements and successes in her sporting career and sent its commiserations to her family, friends and teammates.
“The St George’s College pupil was a member of the England under-16 girls’ team that recently competed in the Easter four nations tournament against Spain, Germany and the Netherlands in Valencia,” a spokesman of the EHB stated his views.
Emma was also a member of a hockey club namely, Surbiton Hockey Club Colts, and according to Fred Moore, Chairman of the club, she was the brightest adolescent talent. After becoming club’s member, Emma always played splendidly and during this season
she was selected in the under-16 team by dint of her shining performance in recent times.
Besides that she was also member of that club’s under-16 and under-18 squads along with the membership of ladies 1st and 2nd eleven. She played a very important role while serving the club.
Meanwhile, the police pursued through the ins and outs of the case and found that there was not any doubtful situation regarding her death. It was a complete open and shut case, with no evidence of suicide or unnatural.
