Emma Gray captures Women’s 200m butterfly title: Day three – 2011 Australian University Games
Emma Gray stunned Gold Coast’s crowd due to her staggering performance in the butterfly swimming heat on day three of the 2011 Australian University Games, in Australia, on Thursday, September 29. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m butterfly
event.
In the corresponding race, Emma Gray of University of Sydney hit the finishing wall with a fastest time of 2 minutes and 28.02 seconds to win gold medal on the podium. On the other hand, Angelina Armellini of University of Melbourne took home the silver
medal by posting a stirring time of 2 minutes and 29.29 seconds. Meanwhile, Sim Su Lim of Flinders University grabbed bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 37.51 seconds.
Jessica Kipping of Monash University settled for fourth position in a time of 2 minutes and 40.84 seconds, while Yumi Shirai of University of Tasmania earned fifth place in 2 minutes and 41.65 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Bec Thompson of Bond University
was placed sixth in a time of 2 minutes and 48.77 seconds.
Katelyn Tadd of University of Melbourne settled seventh after she touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in 2 minutes and 56.13 seconds. Teagan Nugent of Rmit University earned eighth place honours with a mark of 3 minutes and 02.77 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Queensland University of Technology athlete, Kyle Richardson took home the Men’s 100m freestyle title on the podium by submitting a sterling mark of 50.93 seconds. Kurt Herzog of University of Technology was placed second in a time of
52.42 seconds, while Matthew Spence settled third after he touched the finishing wall and ended his swim in 52.94 seconds.
The top-three winners of the race were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion, while the arena appreciated and applauded for the wonderful efforts of all swimmers in their respective events.
The 2011 Australia University Games are providing good opportunities to young Australian athletes to prepare well for their upcoming heats. The event is scheduled to conclude on September 30.
