Emma Terebo, Thibaut Mary dominate final rounds of 12 yrs and under swimming events – Arafura Games
Emma Terebo and Thibaut Mary dominated the final rounds of the 12 years and under swimming events on day three of the 2011 Arafura Games.
The session included the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly for the Girls and Boys of the 12 years and under age category.
The session initiated with the Girl’s 100m butterfly, where the arena’s beloved Emma Terebo presented a wonderful swim to conquer the gold medal. Terebo, who qualified as the third fastest swimmer into the final, paved her way to the top of podium for the
gold medal, clocking a time of 1:12.26 minutes.
In addition, the second fastest qualifier, Victoria’s Elly-Rose Martin sustained her second spot by posting a time of 1:13.97 minutes for the silver medal. West Australia’s Brittany Beesley, who emerged as the fastest swimmer into the final, failed to overcome
her fellow swimmers efforts and finished third by touching the wall in a time of 1:17.69 minutes.
Moments later, Thibaut Mary of New Caledonia occupied the gold medal for the Boy’s equivalent event. Mary, who qualified as the fastest swimmer into the final, met the crowd’s expectations by touching first in an improved time of 1:08.20 minutes.
His time was two seconds faster than his team member, Mathieu Michel, who followed him on the podium for the silver medal with a timing of 1:10.41 minutes. Gerard Standing of WA-sp, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer into the final, failed to overcome
Michel’s effort and settled for bronze in a time of 1:10.96 minutes.
The third event of the session was Girl’s 50m freestyle final, where Emma Terebo once again cruised her way to the top of podium for the gold medal. Emma, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer, sprinted her way to the finishing wall for gold medal
in a time of 28.39 seconds. Her fabulous swim overwhelmed the fastest qualifying swimmer, Elly-Rose Martin of Victoria, who touched the wall for silver medal in 28.91 seconds. NT’s Jayde Freeman followed them on the podium for the bronze medal, posting 30.12
seconds.
The last event of the session was Boy’s 50m freestyle, where Mary again occupied the top of the podium for the gold medal in 28.55 seconds. He was followed by Mathieu Michel and Stuart McRae, who earned silver and bronze medals with a timing of 29.31 and
29.35 seconds respectively.
The championship will continue for one more day to complete all swimming events whereas these swimmers will battle each other in the remaining events to earn more medals.
