Emmanuel Adebayor Looking for Resolution to His Problems
A lot has been said and written about Emmanuel Adebayor and his problems at Eastlands, in his club Manchester City. Sometimes, he is in the good books of Roberto Mancini, claiming to make his way back into the first team, but on
other occasions, he looks desperate and looking for some other challenge. In the end, Adebayor is still at the club, looking for a quick resolution to his problems, but it still seems far off.
There is no doubt that Adebayor is not required in the Manchester City squad. The striker has his name placed on top of the list of the unwanted people at City, along with other players, like Roque Santa Cruz and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
As Mario Balotelli, the summer signing from Inter Milan, continues to impress at Eastland, other players like Adebayor seem more and more alienated from the club. But, the problem is that the striker from Togo has not been able to achieve his dream move so
far, which is a move to Italy to some big Serie A club.
Now, Adebayor is trying to get a loan deal to Tottenham Hotspur in January. The player has played almost no football this season and is still hungry for some challenges. So, according to Adebayor, the challenge can come from a
place in Tottenham’s squad, especially because the club is also playing the Champions League. Also, Tottenham has their own problems in their front-line, as their usual strikers Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch have not been able to shine this season.
However, there are a number of problems associated with Adebayor going to Tottenham in January. The first problem is the high wages of the player, which is around £120,000 per week. Harry Redknapp, the Manager of Tottenham, would
not be willing to pay such a big amount, so City would have to bear some of the burden. Also, there would not be many options available to Manchester City in terms of loan deals for the striker, because no one would be willing to pay such a big amount for
a player who has seen very little football this last year.
Apart from this, if Adebayor joins Tottenham it would be the last straw for Arsenal’s fans. The striker is already in the bad books of the Emirates Stadium, so a move to the archrivals of his old club Arsenal would not do him any
good to improve the relationship. Already, Redknapp has signed former Arsenal captain, William Gallas, but this would be another move to get on the nerves of his North London neighbours.
It has already been established that Adebayor is not required at Eastland and he would be a great addition to the North London side. Also, with a recent injury blow with Rafael Van der Vaart on the sidelines, Adebayor might be
the only option available to Redknapp in order to keep his team on the right track. However, there is yet another problem with would cause problems before a deal could be substantiated between the two clubs. Manchester City and Tottenham are competing for
the Champions League spot and sending Adebayor to the club they are competing against, might not be a good idea.
Considering the performances displayed by both these teams in the current season, it is highly likely that only one of these teams make it into the top four at the end of this season. Last year, Tottenham did it despite odds favouring
Manchester City. Therefore, a loan deal involving a high-profile player, like Adebayor, might prove fatal for City at the end of the season. So, the only likely place for the striker is outside England, where he would not damage City’s chances in their bid
for a Champions League finish.
