Emmanuel Adebayor rethinking about Manchester City
Emmanuel Adebayor is still unclear about his future at Manchester City, despite the Togo international’s earlier declaration that he would be leaving City during this summer. He doesn’t have much time left before he could snatch a deal to a club of his choice.
City have been transformed into a real mess due to a ruthless approach in transfer market. Players have been bought from all corners of Europe, in a bid to strengthen the squad. The real aim was to create a team that could win the English Premier League, and also could challenge the superiority of their neighbors, Manchester United. The ultimate goal is, however, to win a Champions League title, but this would surely be an intention for the next season.
For this purpose, City bought many players who were either unsettled in their respective clubs, or who were shown an interest by other clubs in EPL. Due to this kamikaze approach as termed by Sir Alex Ferguson, City have flooded their squad with plenty of options, as a result many squad members see no prospects of real football for them in the days ahead. At first, it was Robinho who realized such a problem and decided to move away. Now, he is joined by Emmanuel Adebayor who seems to be out of options in order to earn his place in Mancini’s squad.
Although, Adebayor had foreseen such a disaster possibility at the start of summer transfers, but he has now made his decision to move away. This happened when Mancini bought Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan; his move resulted in an environment of insecurity at City, as many players felt unwanted.
However, at the time when Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid’s manager, showed interest in Adebayor, the player had a sitting with Mancini. Initially, it was felt that the sitting had ended in a success as Mancini was able to persuade Adebayor to stay at City. The player was assured that he would be given chances to prove himself but despite the assurances, Adebayor was barely given any chance in the first three EPL matches. Also, City hasn’t been successful in making any impact so far, despite having a squad full of many players with national caps.
At present, the duties of a striker at City would most probably be fulfilled by Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli. It is quite clear that these two players would be Mancini’s first options throughout this season. On the other hand, the players who sit on the bench include Craig Bellemy, Robinho, Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz. All these have made an impact in their previous clubs, which means that having them sit on the bench is a total disaster for football and also that their careers are in danger.
Emmanuel is a great player who came to City from Arsenal in order to win some trophies. Right now, City seems to be far away from being a champion team, and even if they win something, Adebayor would have a little or no part to play in it. Therefore, it is a wise decision for the Togo striker to get a move away from the club, as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, it would seem better for Mancini to try to get some players away on loan deals. He is also trying to get rid of Roque Santa Cruz, in order to make his team more manageable. However, these players require big money for transfers, while funds cannot be produced in such short period.
