Emmanuel Adebayor says he will leave Manchester City if he doesn't play
Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that he will leave the club if he is not given the opportunity to play more first-team football.
The Togolese forward has struggled to break into the starting line-up this season, with manager Roberto Mancini opting to field three holding midfielders in most games — leaving just three spots open for attackers.
Club captain Carlos Tevez has stamped his authority on the team by claiming the central striker’s role, with support tending to be provided by wingers such as 2010 FIFA Wolrd Cup winner David Silva and England internationals Adam Johnson and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
That means that there has been no place in the side for Adebayor. Adebayor has only made three appearances so far for City this season after being a prominent member of the side last term, and he has yet to score this campaign.
He has been linked to moves away from Eastlands to Serie A clubs including Juventus, who City is playing on against on Thursday, and both Milan clubs.
He told Italian newspaper Il Giornale that, "When I said that I was not convinced about ending my career in England, I never mentioned Juventus. But I would be lying to say that I don't consider them as one of the most fascinating clubs in the world.”
When asked about his relationship with his manager as he bids to prove that he deserves a place in the side, Adebayor reacted with, “Mancini? We have spoken with serenity and I want to fight for a starting role. But if I don't play, then it would be stupid
not to look around. I have read many things about me, but they were incorrect. I have never sent messages to other clubs."
