Emmanuel Adebayor staying at Manchester City
English Premier League big-spenders Manchester City have revealed they have no plans to allow striker Emmanuel Adebayor to leave the club this summer. Despite reports linking the player with a move elsewhere and the club having too many players under the new 25-man EPL squad rules, they said on their official Twitter account that: “Take it from us everyone, despite reports, MCFC has no plans to sell Emmanuel Adebayor; our new no.9 for this season - and that's official”.
The news comes after it was reported in Italian newspaper Tuttosport that the 26-year-old had begged Serie A giants Juventus to make a move for him. The paper quoted the player as saying: "Juventus are a great club in which I would like to play. Until some time ago I would not have accepted a transfer to other clubs. I wanted to wear the City shirt and have a better season compared to last year, but I know there will not be many chances for me and so I am considering the many offers I have received."
Italian interest
AC Milan were also said to have been interested in acquiring the services of Adebayor, but his wages of £130,000 per week will rule most clubs out of making a bid for the Togolese forward. The only offer that is reported to have been made for Adebayor so far is a loan bid from Olympique Marseille to spearhead the side’s UEFA Champions League campaign, but the French Ligue 1 champions may struggle to afford the player’s large pay packet.
Although Adebayor will be staying at City, he faces a tough task to get into the first team, with Carlos Tevez, Craig Bellamy, Robinho, Roque Santa Cruz and the likely arrival of Mario Balotelli for competition. However, the news that he is the club’s new number nine will give him confidence that he can play a big part in the 2010-11 season for City.
