The Spurs were given the perfect opportunity to close the gap with the top two sides, Manchester City and Manchester United, as they both stumbled to losses over the weekend. Unfortunately, the London side failed to capitalize on the chance as they managed a 1-1 draw against Swansea City.
If they had won, they would have been just four points behind the joint league leaders but unfortunately they failed to make the most of the rare opportunity. Adebayor said while speaking to reporters:
“We have four games at home we have to focus on them and make sure we get maximum points out of them.
Now 2011 is over, we are looking forward to 2012 and we have a big chance to finish in the top four, or maybe get second or third.”
According to the Togolese forward, the upcoming clash against West Bromwich Albion was crucial and his side could not afford anything less than a win. He urged them to be prepared for the fixture and try and get the best result possible.
He continued:
“The season will be long and tough but we just have to keep going, keep believing we can get in that top four and if you want to finish in the top four these are the games you cannot lose or draw.
West Brom is going to be an important game for us.”
Adebayor was confident his side would catch up with the league leaders as long as they remained focused and managed wins in their upcoming fixtures at White Hart Lane at the start of 2012.
