Emmanuel Adebayor is counting his last days at Manchester City but the countdown does not seem to be over yet. The striker from Togo has spent almost half the season being sidelined and attempting to prove his worth to his manager, Roberto Mancini. On the
other hand, Mancini has turned a deaf year to the pleas and signs shown by his striker.
This season, Adebayor has started only two matches for Manchester City and he has come in as a substitute in 6 matches. However, even his role as a makeshift striker is in jeopardy, because Mancini preferred his Brazilian striker, Jo, in recent match against
Fulham. The main reason behind Mancini’s move is that Adebayor does not fit well in the role of a substitute. He needs some time to get in touch and before he can be on the score-sheets. Unfortunately for Adebayor, there is not much time available for him
to be scoring goals for his club.
There are many questions regarding Adebayor’s dilemma that need answering. One cannot neglect the fact that the Togo striker did show his incredible form, once this season, to his manager. Adebayor scored a hat-trick in a UEFA Europa League match, in which
he was included in the starting XI by his manager. However, the match against Arsenal followed soon but Adebayor failed to break into the starting position. Mancini even neglected the fact that the striker has a tendency to score goals against his old club,
as he has already done it during the last season.
So, it is for sure that Adebayor is ready to leave the club for good. Manchester City has given him nothing but a ruined career. The striker came to City after two great seasons at Arsenal, in which he scored important goals, rather more frequently. After
joining his new club, the striker had a great first season. But, despite his performances, he was totally neglected by the manager in the second season.
But, it was expected that things would change and players would be hurt at Manchester City. Their manager, Roberto Mancini, spent a fortune and brought new faces to the club. Rather than building on the last year’s team, which actually had a lot of talent,
Mancini went for his new team. Therefore, the induction of players like David Silva, Mario Balotelli and Yaya Toure was a threat to many players. A lot of other players felt that they are not required at the City set-up under Mancini. Some made an early decision
and left in time, like Robinho took no time in joining AC Milan. However, Adebayor somehow stayed put and decided to prove his worth, but unfortunately he has failed to find love at City of Manchester Stadium.
There are many clubs in Europe who can make use of Adebayor in the January transfer window. There are rumours that Juventus is undergoing talks with City in order to sign the striker in January. Adebayor reinforced such statements and said that a loan deal
to Turin is under discussion. However, Manchester City has said that the striker is for sale but Juventus is not involved in any talks in this regard.
A problem that may arise for Adebayor is that he would be cup-tied with the clubs who would be willing to buy him. One thing is for sure, that Adebayor might not land into a Champions League side because he is not playing a lot of football in recent weeks,
which might make him a financial burden.
On the other hand, the clubs below the Champions League spots also have no use for him because he is unable to play in the Europa League. Nevertheless, there are teams who are pushing for league title, like AS Roma, Juventus, Lazio, Tottenham Hotspurs and
Liverpool. These seem to be the most likely destinations for Adebayor, or it might be some other club in a similar position.
It is better for the striker to leave as soon as possible and restart his football career from a team that needs him. Manchester City does not need him, as with all the money coming in from their billion dollar owner from Abu Dhabi. Right now, City has already
replaced Adebayor, and there only problem is that they are unable to get rid of the striker.
