The former Dynamo Kyiv manager praised the Nigerian footballer after Spartak Moscow’s latest Russian Premier League win against Rubin Kazan.
In the latest round of Russian Premier League action, Spartak Moscow managed to win 2-0 against Rubin Kazan at Luzhniki stadium. The host team got in front through Marek Suchy’s goal and Emmanuel Emenike confirmed three points
after scoring his twelfth goal of the ongoing campaign.
As a result, Spartak have moved up to the second spot on the league table and trail the table-toppers by 12 points.
In the aftermath of the outcome, Viktor Onopko has praised Emenike, admitting that the Nigerian striker has rediscovered his old form after returning to full fitness following an ankle injury.
“Emenike is a clear leader who has grown offensively, which could be seen throughout the match. He is dangerous and a nightmare to the defenders. Emenike is in very good shape and Spartak are enjoying good fortune as well. Aside
from his individual form, I think he is a team player.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
There’s little arguing that Emenike’s decent domestic form has dragged the Red-whites back into the race for the UEFA Champions League spot this season. And while the 24-year-old striker is the contender for the Nigerian player
of the year, Emenike is still the club’s leading scorer this season.
Onopko hailed the Moscow-based club’s performance against the Volzhane, admitting that the Spartachi deserved to win the respective tie at home. However, he warned Spartak against complacency and urged them to maintain their decent
domestic run by winning the remaining matches of the ongoing season.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk player went on to reveal that Spartak turned the tables despite a disappointing start to the third league round. The Myaso have managed to claim a measly 5 points in 5 outings.
Onopko went on to praise Spartak’s defensive line against Rubin, revealing that it will give them immense confidence in the upcoming game against Anzhi Makhachkala at Olimpiyskiy stadion.
“Let’s hope they continue their decent momentum in the upcoming game against Anzhi.” The former Saturn Moscow Oblast player concluded.
