The retired midfielder has urged Laurent Blanc’s men to improve their game for the Euro 2012 quarter-final clash against the reigning European Champions.
France started their campaign well with 4 points from their opening two fixtures but were brought down to earth by an already-eliminated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 side. Les Bleus suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat against the Swedes that ended their impressive 23-match unbeaten
run.
Emmanuel Petit feels that the defeat against Sweden was a wake-up call for Laurent Blanc’s men ahead of quarter-finals.  Talking to France Football, Petit conceded that it was shocking to see France lose in such manner against an already-eliminated opponent.
"I did not expect to see France end such a run against an opponent who were already eliminated,"
The 1998 World Cup winner said that the players looked rusty in the match. The Frenchman stated that teams do lose in tournaments like this but to lose in the manner they did against an ordinary Sweden side, is unacceptable.
“We can lose, that is not the point, but we cannot lose like this. Even if they tried, I do not think they were physically or mentally ready to face Sweden."
The retired midfielder, who put an end to his playing career in 2004, admitted that France have underperformed in the tournament so far and many players are not up to the mark.
The Frenchman believes that Laurent Blanc’s side need to improve in many areas and the suspension of Philippe Mexes has not helped the cause. Whether http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laurent-Koscielny-c21742 can fill in for the suspended defender is yet to be seen.
Emmanuel Petit has called on the players to improve their individual performance if they want to beat La Roja.
“There are several players who are not playing at their usual level. Sooner or later, and not later than the match against Spain, they will have to show what they can do."
Petit has asked for more offensive from Les Bleus and has suggested Laurent Blanc to give more chance to players like Giroud, Menez and Valbuena to add more fire-power to the team.
