The apothecary was described as "emotional as a bagpipe"

what does that mean?

  1. I don't know.  Bagpipes are not emotional, so it could be that, but they do make a wailing sound, so it could refer to that.  What fits the context?


  2. I agree the sound of bagpipes is a kind of wailing sound, but the sound does not change no matter what tune is being played.  The apothecary seems to have the same sad appearance all the time, with no changes ever.
