Empanada(dea)?

Does anyone know why empanadas are called that everywhere but Puerto Rico? They're empanadeas there. I'm half Puerto Rican, and I've grown up calling them that and thought it might've just been my family. But I went to Puerto Rico last year and at restaurants, they were called empanadeas on the menu. Anyone know why there's a difference?

  1. well

    i see this..

    and egg foo yaung

but you could look in a dictionary

    empanada

    NOUN:

A Spanish or Latin-American turnover with a flaky crust and a spicy or sweet filling

  2. It's just a dialect within the spanish language. I believe in Cuba they also say empanadea.

    .

  3. different dialect between puerto rican and mexican. i believe the puerto ricans speak more of a castellano which is a more proper form of spanish.

  4. There are just different spellings because there are different kinds of Spanish depending on the Country you are in.

For example the Spanish in Spain is very different from the Spanish in Mexico. Hence there may be different spellings and even different meanings of words etc.

Just like English from England is different than English in the U.S.
