Emphasis on greeks and romans?

why is there emphasis on the greeks and romans in school?

They have given us Philosophical views & technologies we never would dream that it was possible so many thousands of years ago

From the Greeks and Romans we have such a huge legacy. Greece has given us democracy

Rome has given us concepts of law.

Western civilization is strongly influenced by these two cultures , e.g. laws , language , literature , military , etc . . .

The Ancient Greeks were the foundation for all Western thought, and it was the Romans who spread Ancient Greek culture and philosophy across what is now the Western world. Without both of them, the world would be a very different place today.

by emphasizing these two  influential cultures instead of some of the others that also were so impotent to the development of human kind, like Asia, Africa and north and south America  then it would seam that these had nothing to offer.one must read lots of history to know there were others one very good book i.m reading know is "1434" read it too.

The Greeks popularized classic literature, a republic form of government, philosophy, religion, language, etc..  The Romans conquered Greek city states and embraced their culture.  In time, the Romans would control most of Europe and parts of Africa and the middle east Asia, spreading their culture and leaving a foot print in history.  Constantine will mandate Christianity as the official religion of the Roman empire, thus legitimizing it and spreading it all over the Western world.  In the name of Christianity, the Spaniards in time will conquer the Americas.
