Emphatic season for Czech Republic players – Tennis News
Prague has proved to be the most successful location for the Czech Republic players this season especially when they got united for a team goal in the Federation Cup as well as the Davis Cup. It was a fantastic experience for the
likes of the Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova to retain the title at the home soil against the talented and experienced Serb squad. On the other hand, the likes of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek registered the first ever Davis Cup victory for Czech Republic
in the 100th edition of the tournament. It was a fascinating experience for the Czech men to win at their home soil against the experienced and more powerful Spanish squad who were also defending their title.
Safarova stated in a post-victory interview, “Here at home in this type of crowd, it’s indescribable, it’s an amazing feeling. There are so many emotions and happiness and that is the feeling we are practicing for every day, even
if you’re not in the mood to work.”
Stepanek confessed to the media reporters, “I was dreaming about this my whole life. I cannot describe what I am feeling right now. I was playing very aggressively today. I didn’t want to leave anything behind. I wanted to be the
one who was active and controlling the game. They [the team of 1980] have been our inspiration, our idols. They’re legends and now we’re joining them.”
It will be a very busy season in 2013 for the Czech Republic team who is going to defend both the titles. Tomas Berdych is ranked sixth in the world, therefore, has to play bulk of the season tournaments and reach the advanced
stages to it will be hectic for him. On the other hand, Kvitova has slipped to the eighth spot in the Women Tennis Association rankings and she would like to regain the momentum and bid for the Grand Slam Championships. She won the Wimbledon Championships
in 2011 but failed to register a successful season in 2012 due to injuries and poor run of form. let’s hope the players live up to the expectations in 2013.
